Gwda is the biggest, 145.1 km long tributary of NoteÄ. It flows from the meadows above the lake Wierzchowo near Szczecinek, flows into NoteÄ in UjĹcie near PiĹa. The River Gwda is an attractive kayak trail which goes through a picturesque region. Apart from communing with nature and beautiful landscape the river allows tourists to discover cultural monuments in Szczecinek, Jastrowie and PiĹa. An unquestionable attraction for those who like military accessories is an advance position of German defense line, so-called Pomorski Bulwark [WaĹ Pomorski], which goes along the River Gwda. For those interested in the monuments of technology it will certainly be worth seeing a curiosity built at the beginning of the 20th century, i.e. a group of water-power plants. The trail is clearly split into sections. The upper part with lakes: Studnica, Wierzchowo, SmolÄsko, Wielimie, ther River DoĹga, lakes: DoĹgie, StÄpiĹskie, DÄbno and ĹÄ kie creates a kayak trail called Szczeciniecka Loop ["PÄtla Szczeciniecka"]. Further section goes through meadows and forest in a picturesque plain in the LÄdyczek direction, then passing Jastrowie, PiĹa and reaching UjĹcie. It takes 7-8 days to cover the whole trail without stopping for any sightseeing.
While going down the River Gwda it is worth seeing:
Wierzchowo Lake: one of the most beautiful lakes on the trail, on the peninsula cutting into the north-western part of the lake there are remains of the Slavic emplacement ruins.
Szczecinek: until the 13th century a fish settlement named Kiecz; the oldest in the West Pomerania grammar school /1640/, Regional Museum in a gothic tower from the 16th century, shelters from the Second World War.
Ledyczek: currently a village, till 31 December 1972 the smallest town in Poland and one of smallest in Europe.
Jastrowie: civic rights in 1602. Town Hall from the turn of the 16th and 17th century, called a "Stone House" and two churches from 1882 and 1913.
KrÄpsko: a village known since 1590, in the 18 th and 19th century there was a smithy: plough-share place.
UjĹcie: civic rights in 1414, Kalwaria Ujska /1893-1908/, neo-baroque church from 1905, eclectic Town Hall from the 19 th century.
