Founded in the 10th century on the River Vienne, a town beautifully located in the western part of France. The oldest monument is the 12th century Church of St. Jack with rare chimes with 50 peals of bells. In a historic, three-storey Sally hotel from 1600 there are collections of the Town Museum. Well known are also: the Museum of Carthesius, a great philosopher who spent his childhood in Chatellerault, and the fort of Henry V. A very famous is also the Museum of Beekeepers. Near the town there is also a famous visual complex, "Futuroscope".
