THE TOWN OF PIŁA
A A A

Piła – picturesquely situated town on the river Gwda in the borderland of western Pomeranian and Great Poland. Over a half of its area is occupied by woodlands and parks which take the land between modern housing districts. Numerous lakes add to the town's beauty. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and unspoiled nature which offers active forms of entertainment attracting both Polish and foreign tourists.

Thanks to its geographical location, the town is a significant intersection of the communications routes on the whole country scale. Here crossing are motorways and railway lines which lead from the seaside to the south, to Poznań, Gorzów and further to Germany and from Szczecin and Świnoujście to Bydgoszcz, Toruń and Warsaw.

Piła is also an industrial centre which is developing systematically.
Almost nine thousand businesses are registered now in Piła. The most dynamically developing branches include: electronic, electric and printing. The town's population at the end of 2008 reached 75 thousand inhabitants. Young people constitute the majority, almost 60% of the population is under forty years old.

Paulo Coelho
